Remember how I told you we’ve been doing beat reviews?
I talked about how a bunch of the beats could have been better by using high-quality drum samples, the kinds in the Centerfold Drum Kit.
But it was unfair of me not to mention that there’s been some godly beats too.
Like, this one beat by Cybah almost made me fall out of my chair - it was so good!
You can listen to it here.
And here are three things that I think Cybah did well that you can replicate in your own production.
First, Cybah had an amazing mix.
This has to do with his focus on levels, wonderful effects, and his nice sound selection.
That’s why I said yesterday that the drum samples you use will make or break your beats 99% of the time.
And you can check out this guide on how to use Centerfold to create perfect mixes in your beats.
Second, Cybah had a brilliant arrangement for his beats, which made it interesting to listen to all the way through.
This is important because you usually only have a few seconds to get and keep the listener’s attention.
Whether it’s an artist that may buy your track or a producer judging your beats in a battle, you want to do the right things to keep their attention so that they enjoy listening to your instrumentals.
Check out this guide on how to improve your beat arrangement.
The “Earn Your First 1000 USD Making Beats” course bundle also comes with 2 beat making templates that will help you fast-track your beat arrangements so that you can work more efficiently in your beat making.
Third, Cybah pulled inspiration from his favorite producer, Skypierr, to make his beat.
It’s important to copy the style of your favorite producers and find your own unique way to implement their techniques.
The worst beats I hear during streams always sound like they have no influence.
And no offense to them, but there’s nothing to gain from making a unique style of beat that doesn’t sound like anyone else’s work if the beat still ends up sounding horrible.
Cybah’s beat didn’t sound like a copycat version of one of Skypierr’s pieces. It sounded like he drew inspiration from someone amazing and put his own influence on it.
That’s how you develop your one style.
I hope this helps you create better and more interesting beats. And I hope to see you at the next beat review or beat battle.
We stream the Dope Content Only Show every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday at 4:30 PM EST.
Blessings.
