You don’t need the best equipment to make great music. You just need an obsession with making music.
There are so many free DAWs on mobile and desktop—and most, if not all, of the paid ones have demos!
I recommend trying FL Studio demo or paid (I believe mobile is paid-only, but it’s worth it from what I remember).
Here’s a workflow for making amazing beats just using FL Studio 👇
First, start strong by opening the free Band4Band mixer template.
You don’t need it, but it’s there as my gift to you.
And it’ll help make your baselines sound super fat, which is the first sound I like to lay down.
Always just start on the root note—then sauce it up from there.
Some slides and good (simple) mixing will make it sound epic.
Now for the part I used to get stuck on all the time…
Melodies.
Here’s one workflow I came up with → Build a simple, catchy motif first—then layer the surrounding chords.
And, you can use the baseline MIDI to create a lead melody too—just pick a lead patch, move it up a few octaves, then add FX to it.
Later, you can easily layer chords (if needed) based on the scale and root notes used.
From there, it’s just the fun part left 😈.
The drums!
Peep my drum programming guide if you need help.
“Don’t fuck up the drums.” - Travis Scott (yes, for real).
Use a simple bounce and build around that.
Good bounce = good arrangement = good mix.
