I'm still in the process of studying stereo image.
Tbh, there will probably be a part 2 to the imaging essay we did the other day.
BUT...
While I was studying delay as a stereo FX, I came across the topic of grain delay.
This lead me to Portal, an FX granulizer.
Then I completely fell down the rabbit hole and ended up studying Fruity Granulizer (FG).
I noticed there's not a lot of content about granulization or FG.
So I might do an essay or 2 talking about how you can spice up your beats with this.
For now, I want to demystify the idea so you aren't lost by the time we drop the video/newsletter.
Granulizers takes an audio sample and chops it up into grains (tiny incremental pieces of itself, kind of like slices of a pie).
The the granulizer plays those chops back.
That's it.
For the longest time I thought it was way more complicated than that, but no.
The macro settings on various granulizers can adjust how the chops manifest and playback; that's what sets each one apart.
So we'll talk about that tomorrow or early next week because almost no producers make use of this technique.
If you want to make your tracks stand out, try loading your next sample into the granulizer and just mess around with it!
& of course I have those newsletters and essays on the way to help you make the most of it.
