YouTube is in “EASY MODE” (do this to blow up your music channel NOW)

brand development marketing Nov 07, 2024

You’ve probably been building your music channel wrong this entire time.

Yesterday was the best time to start getting serious about it, but today isn’t a bad time to start either - that way, you’re ahead of everyone who won’t start until tomorrow.

If you want to share your music and connect with an audience of chill people, then you NEED to start using YouTube THE RIGHT WAY going into 2025!

I’ve gotten millions of views across 4 channels, gotten 2 of them monetized, and receive one silver plaque (so far).

All of which has helped me reach a countless number of people with my music.

Today, I’m going I’m going to share exactly how you can build YouTube channels that do the exact same thing!

[watch/listen on YouTube]

But… there’s ONE THING that over 80% of musicians don’t understand about YouTube.

I never wanted to create content (and STILL don't).

I've always just wanted to share my music, and that stems from back when I was a band geek in middle school.

You're probably the same too, If I had to make a guess.

And that’s understandable.

That’s why YouTube is so awesome!

They’ve created ways for us to achieve our dream when we use the platform correctly.

🧠 The first thing to understand is YouTube is a long form video platform, so you NEED to take advantage of long form video content.

If you are able to read this letter, you pretty much have NO EXCUSE not to be posting content (other than you don’t feel like it).

If you start now, you’ll be ahead of the 80% of people who never get off the ground because they refuse to wrap their heads around this concept.

I’ll admit though, it’s not quite as simple as just making long form content. You need to know what you’re doing, and having a plan helps.

But, it’s not really complicated either.

Ask yourself some simple questions and be real...

Do you want to grow your music brand?

Yes or no?

If no, then I can no longer help you and I wish you the best of luck my friend.

If yes, then I have no more 👇

Are you will to post content if it's to the benefit of your growth as a creative?

Yes or no?

If no, then I can no longer help you and I wish you the best of luck my friend.

If yes, then you need to understand ONE THING:

🧠 You MUST post consistently.

YouTube rewards two specific things about your channel;

  1. Tenure (how long you've been active), and
  2. Channel weight (how much overall engagement you have).

And these are things you can’t get without posting consistently.

My recommendation to start out with:

  • 1 long for per month,
  • 1 short per week, and
  • 1 community post per day.

If done correctly, you should be able to cut all four shorts from the one long form, and your community posts will be about what you’re doing or learning in preparation for your long form drop.

If you do this right, you can spend 30 minutes a day studying a topic and then 30 more minutes afterwards putting your learning into practice - if you do this for 30 days, you’ll ALWAYS end up with enough ‘creative juice’ for a month worth of content.

At this point you’re probably really excited.

BUT...

There’s that nagging question in the back of your mind -

“This is amazing Chu - Okay, great! But… What do I actually make content about now? And how the hell do I edit it??”

Valid questions.

If you love music, you’ve already won the battle.

🧠 All you need to do is research what you love (so just engage with it like normal and pay a little more attention, maybe take some notes on Notion).

It can be about the technical side of things, like beat making or engineering - but it doesn’t have to.

It can also be about Philosophical topics (video essays).

You can even do Documentaries [Think Pat CC].

Then, you just share your music with the audience you’ve built by sharing content.

A few ways to do that include;

  • Posting the music directly to your channel as a piece of content.
  • Linking your channel to your DSP accounts through your distributor and using the Release tab to promote your music.
  • Using Links in description.

Oh, And I have a Full Guide on my first channel that teaches you in depth how to research topics and edit videos.

Almost no musicians will do this - even though it takes less than 1 hour each day to build up the cornerstone of your music marketing approach (your YT channel!!

As you can tell, this is very different from the typical type of advice you’d get from other music content creators.

I’m not saying that’s better or worse, I’m just noticing that we’ve carved out a DOPE space for ourselves here.

There’s a million other things like this that can help musicians grow brands and earn money, instead of the tired old trope of dying a starving artists.
