I've been using Threads a bit more lately.
It's been great!
Forum/blog style content creation is a great way to connect and share ideas.
AND...
You get to learn some interesting things about your niche if you pay attention.
For example, I made this post last night.
I thought it was harmless, and went to bed without thinking much of it.
About 50 insults and racial slurs deleted/blocked later, I can tell you this was NOT received as harmless at all 😭.
The main defense was something like "such and such artists [Hendrix, Cobain] didn't need to know theory and they were great blah blah blah."
That's a pretty simple thing to refute though...
You KNOW mfs are stupid when AI is reasoning better than them 🙃.
BUT, jokes aside...
I realized something far more interesting is happening here.
"Musicians" are LITERALLY saying they aren't going to try to learn to get better... 🤔.
Do you know what that means?
It means the market is wide open for ANYONE who will put in even A LITTLE EFFORT.
Bonus points if you actually decide to do your best.
Whoa, *gasp*... genuine effort 😳???
By the way, you don't need to get a masters degree in musical notation.
That's not what I mean by "learning theory."
I mean that knowing what you're doing makes you more effective for and valuable to the market.
Why would anyone fight against that?
Unless they been subconsciously programmed to be a loser... 🤔.
The only thing you really need to know about theory is note naming and chord structure; you can check out this full guide if you wanna learn that.
But, please let the take away be that the next 5 years are WIDE OPEN for ANYONE who can learn skills and put them into action by creating value. 🧠
