Day 59 - Check out the beats I've made over the last few days! 🎈Check out the most recent cook-ups!
Yoo homie!
This is based on something I’ve been learning from Cal Newport's book, “Digital Minimalism.” (I highly recommend btw).
I’ve cut tons of tech and social media from my life. Here are a few of them along with the activities I replaced them with;
- Instagram 📸
- I used to use it for ‘networking’ but it was costing me 2+ hours a day.
- I’m replacing this by working more closely with my channel members [more members only videos, more attention on reviews, and better results on collabs].
- NOTE: I’ll spend more time networking with the people I actually have relationships with instead of searching endlessly for the next relationship on social media.
- Streaming on YouTube 📺
- I don't watch TV but I watch a ton of YouTube.
- I’m replacing this with *more* reading.
- I'm currently reading;
- the bible
- ‘As A Man Thinketh’ by James Allen
- ‘Digital Minimalism’ by Cal Newport
- ‘4-Hour Workweek’ by Tim Harris.
- NOTE: I’ll still allow one hour of YouTube streaming a day.
- Email 📧
- Constantly checking my email is a nasty habit I picked up in college
- For many it’s IG or text. For me, it’s email.
- I decided to delete the email apps from my phone and only check email once a week.
The results: 6+ hours of free time added back to my days 😂 (screen time verified).
And I haven’t missed out on any opportunities or big events lol.
This is teaching me that FOMO is a normal human emotion but it doesn’t have to dominate your life.
The bonus: It’s a lot harder for me to have a beat block now that I’m not bogged down by so many unnecessary things.
The beat block cannot survive the 6 hours of dead time.
Eventually I just get bored, open up the centerfold drum kit, and make another banger.
It’s been an interesting experience for me. Let me know on discord how it goes for you if you try it!
