I've been putting off listening to Tyler's new drop...
And it's not because I don't like Tyler (as I'm sure you know)
Nah - it's the opposite.
I knew the music would have me feeling amazing.
And, I'm ashamed to admit that I didn't think I deserved to feel good 😔.
But Chromakopia came on shuffle this morning while I was brushing my teeth.
Instead of skipping it like I have been, I just let it play 🤷♂️.
& I'm glad I didn't wait another day, because Tyler is saying a lot of stuff I needed to hear.
There's a theme of unapologetic self-interest, and I love it.
That's the first thing I've learned from Chromakopia.
1) It's not bad to think about yourself first.
The other 2 things are a bit closer to the technical side of production though.
2) Tyler is REALLY GOOD at clipping his mix.
The sound selection on the drums is already immaculate, but it takes it that next step by giving each sound the perfect amount of saturation.
If you're an audiophile, you NEED to listen to this project.
3) Tyler's stereo image is out of this world.
He's a genius at picking the right sounds and organizing them in the mix.
Every single element has it's chance to shine, and you never get the sense that he's adding sh*t to the beat just for the sake of it.
I'm 100% going to do an essay about this vibe 🔥.
I'm not sure which will come first - either this Tyler essay, or the one about granular synthesis 🤔.
Either way, I'll keep you posted while bringing you more gems about what I'm learning in the mean time!
